About the author

Born and raised in Britain, living in South Korea, Duncan James is the author of action-adventure-crime novel White Knight set in 1980s Seoul. Having spent years in various parts of Korea, James has combined his knowledge, experience, research and interest in Korean culture to craft a creative piece for anyone who's in need of a slice of literary entertainment in the Far East. When he's not writing, James teaches English, goes running, either alone or with others, walks his dog, enjoys a beer and, most importantly, raises his daughter with his lovely wife Heilley on the tourist island of Jeju.

White Knight

Seoul, 1982. South Korea is a democracy in name only. Rigged elections, dictatorships, assassinations and corrupted authorities: all hallmarks of a dystopian Asian backwater for decades.

When Park Ye Eun, a beautiful young Korean woman and her American fiance are found murdered in a US military base in the heart of Seoul, it's a case of maintaining diplomatic immunity over a thorough investigation. The Korean and American judiciaries are satisfied when they think they've found their man. Park Ji Eun, the late Ye Eun's sister, is far from convinced and she asks the White Knight to answer the call for justice.
Tasked with nothing more than a faded photograph and a desperate hunch, Seo Yoon So, the White Knight himself, penetrates the Seoul underworld. There, he unearths the secrets buried by totalitarian tyrants and a cabal of expatriates who have plans of their own for humble Korea.

Reviews

Providing a sense of familiarity in the not-so-distant past while simultaneously delivering a myriad of stimulating twists, the book promises to navigate you through the intricacies of Korean culture in a menacing underbelly occupied by damsels and Jackels. Follow in the steps of the protagonist by deducing there is more risk by not initiating.

Reader

A great protagonist who is bound to be seen again in future novels from this author. The story is well paced and develops in such a way as to keep our interest and make us read on. Creating a good feeling of South Korea in the early 80s, while moving into the realms of international control by wealth and ancient rites, we gain a real feel for characters and settings. As a first novel this promises a lot.

Reader

White Knight is a roller-coaster read with plenty of twists and turns! James builds a great idea of 80s Seoul in the mind's eye! The plot is very entertaining and the style is a true page turner. Highly recommend.

My Sister…My Sinner First Chapter

I take Jackson’s pudgy hand. I tremble with excitement as I pry the thin scratched ring off his hairy little finger. All that glitters is gold. I don’t count myself…
